Drum drying is a process often used on farms and in the animal food industry to turn lucerne, also known as alfalfa grass, into nutritious food for animals. Alfalfa grass or lucerne is a popular forage crop that serves as food for dairy cattle and other farm animals. Before it can be used as food, the crop is processed in a drum dryer to turn the fibres into bales or pellets with low moisture and high protein content. To preserve the nutritional value, drum drying has to take place soon after mowing. We design custom-made dryers that achieve excellent drying of the crop's long fibres with varying moisture content, after which the food is easily transported to the next stage of processing.
